The City of Gilroy will be holding a town hall meeting at Luigi Aprea Elementary School to discuss the recent traffic changes on upper Welburn Avenue from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday January 31. For those who cannot attend the city has set up an online survey to gather feedback from residences impacted by the traffic circulation changes.
The temporary changes, including turning restrictions on upper Welburn and Mantelli Drive, and associated monitoring were approved for $25,000 at the November 21 Gilroy City Council meeting.
The soft traffic calming measures were developed after four years of complaints about excessive speeding and traffic congestion by a group of residences in Upper Welburn.
Since implementation a month ago, the measures have been widely derided by residents who live just outside the immediately impacted area in surrounding neighborhoods, citing increased trip times and confusing signage.
