75 teams signed up for spring and summer leagues
GILROY – The 75-team Gilroy Community Services Department recreational softball league opens the 2004 spring and summer season Friday with tripleheaders at three lighted fields.

Teams play six games each in the first half, with the second half scheduled for late June through early August. The champions of each half play in a best 2-of-3 Championship Series in August.

The Men’s C League opens play Friday at Christmas Hill Park. D.A. Wolfe Construction tests Dee’z Nutz at 6:30 p.m., the Good Fellas and Punishment Inc. square off at 7:40, and Obata Farms tries the VFW Vets at 8:50. Carreiro’s Plastering drew a bye.

The Men’s D League plays Friday at Las Animas Park. Team HJ-FX meets Ellite Barbers at 6:30 p.m., Trevino Brothers Construction and Dequin’s Auto Body play at 7:40, Fritter-Schulz Physical Therapy-Humboldt meets Family Affair at 8:50. RMC Engineering drew a bye.

The Men’s DD League plays Friday at Gavilan Sports Park. The Slammers and Hustlers play at 6:30 p.m., the Martini’s collide with the Bomb Squad, and Los Chilotes tests Cosa Nostra at 8:50. Krazy Koyote drew a bye.

The Men’s DDD League plays Sunday at Gavilan. California Overhead and Aladdin Bail Bonds-Rhino Wiring open the Aug. 25 play at 5:30 p.m. Most Wanted and the Hitmen play at 6:40, with Bay Sheets playing Dan Keith Septics at 7:50.

The Co-Rec League, with a new feature which has the male batters trying to hit a 16-inch softball, opens Sunday at Las Animas Park. Covenant Builders and Dicar Insurance meet at 5:00 p.m., South Valley Newspapers and Rush Order Inc. meet at 6:10, Team Hair FX plays Chicks N’ Sticks at 7:20, while Dutchman’s Pizza-Big Kahunas takes on Mitsubishi Motors at 8:30 p.m.

The Men’s CC and CCC Leagues play Mondays. The four-team Men’s B League plays Tuesdays at Christmas Hill Park. The four-team Women’s B League plays Wednesdays at Christmas Hill, with an eight-team Women’s C League using Las Animas and Gavilan on Wednesdays. Thursday is left to the Men’s E and EE Leagues.
