Gilroy Gardens H20 Park: wasteful water in drought?

Dear Red Phone, “I'm reading in the Dispatch that there's a new water park at Gilroy Gardens. I thought we were in a drought. This water cannot be recycled water, so obviously we no longer need to stop flushing our toilets each time we use them. And we can water our yards and wash the cars. It doesn't play at all. Plus, the $2 million, where is that coming from? Oh yes, it's my pocketbook - again. As a taxpayer, I think this is horrible. I wonder if this political, is this a payoff to Don Chapin and Co. for something? I don't know. Please do your best.

Dr. Mark Stickney, a clinical associate professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, was recently mentioned in the article, “Extreme Groomers Give Dogs Dazzle,” regarding creative and eccentric grooming for dogs. Everything from Mohawks, flower designs and temporary paint tattoos are created on the animal for “bonding” between a person and their pooch. Harmless yet extravagant, this extreme grooming fad is becoming increasingly popular among dog owners. While Dr. Stickney admits in the article that this type of grooming is not for him, he does agree that you should always be sure to keep up with your pets’ basic grooming.

DST just around the bend and just maybe the library will be open on Sunday

For those of you wondering, as I have been lately, when exactly Daylight Saving Time starts, it’s Sunday, March 9 at 2 a.m. That’s when the clock springs forward for some inexplicable reason and, voila, an extra hour of daylight appears magically and the days grow longer marching toward summer. Leave the clock alone would be my preference. It’s just a weird cultural fluke from days gone by at this point.

Gilroy family’s roots steeped in Mayflower history

The woman staring out at me was not smiling. She had not seen the light of day in many years but had been kept safely hidden away, thanks to grandma's packrat tendencies, love of genealogy and appreciation for her New England roots. I rediscovered the photo last week in a box that had not been opened since 1970, when my grandma passed away.
