Licking my wounds … not sure which gashes were inflicted by our just-completed home loan refinancing process or which were the result of the 49ers loss Sunday. Both were unnecessarily tortuous. The 49ers should have and could have overcome the bad calls and won the game, but I agree with our Gilroy brethren, former 49er QB Jeff Garcia, who said in a radio interview that the final play fade route throw from Colin Kaepernick to wide receiver Michael Crabtree, which resulted in an interception, was the wrong call for a number of reasons. The throw would have had to have been perfect, said Garcia. Yep, not the smart call or the percentage play, and I appreciate Garcia telling it like it is. He, after all, learned from the best. His father, Bobby, still calls them like he sees them.

For an engaged couple in which one person belongs to a religious congregation, the choice of wedding venue is relatively simple. But a couple with no connection to an organized religion that wants something more than a simple civil ceremony, the choice can be quite difficult.

The Gilroy United Methodist Church (GUMC) was the first church formed in 1853 in the area known as “Pleasant Valley,” 17 years before the town of  Gilroy came into existence. In 2001, GUMC became the first mainline church in Gilroy to have a woman senior pastor at the helm when Rev. Alison Berry broke the stained glass ceiling. In 2009, GUMC welcomed its first African-American senior pastor, and in 2010, their first Korean-American senior pastor, Rev. Eric C. Cho, came to serve in Gilroy.

I’d like you to explain why every house or every other house in Gilroy gets the Dispatch free. I know quite a few people who don’t subscribe and get it free. I’m wondering why that is? I have no problem with it, but maybe next year I won’t subscribe. Thank you.

“Da Mayor” Richie Perez has done many a kind deed to support so many different organizations in this town via his connection with the San Jose Sharks. Now, he has occasion to ask Gilroyans to return his generosity to help his nephew, John Vasquez, battle multiple myeloma, a cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow. John needs a bone marrow transplant, and the medical costs are soaring. Chef de Gilroy Cuisine Dave Bozzo is handling BBQ meal duties for the Saturday, April 27 fundraising event at Christmas Hill Park which begins at noon. It’s $20 for an adult meal ticket and there will be a raffle, too. Richie and the Vasquez family are asking for raffle item donations.
