Casey and Blair Franklin: Best man becomes the groom
I saw Casey for the first time at my good friend's wedding in Spokane, Wash. He was the best man. I liked his beard, his wicked dance moves and the way he made everyone smile. I was very drawn to him and had a strange feeling that was the guy I was going to marry. So, after many glasses of champagne, I told the bride I had a crush on the best man. She obligingly passed my message along, and the rest is history. We just celebrated our one year anniversary Jan. 26.

Mission 10–The Start of Racing Season
Another Rotary Mission 10 (mile) and 5K race, in San Juan Bautista, sponsored by the Hollister Rotary Club, is in the books. I overheard somebody say that this was something like the thirty-first running of the Mission 10. I have probably run six or seven of these—I’m not sure exactly—but even though we are barely a month into winter, The Mission 10, coming at the end of January, always seems like the start of the “spring” racing season. And this is a good race to begin the New Year: Ten miles is an unusual distance these days, but it is a very good test. Longer than a 10K but shorter than a half marathon, ten miles is long enough to remind you that this it is a long way, so if you have plans to run anything longer this year—half marathon or marathon— you need to start ramping up the mileage.

What to my wondering eyes did appear, but drops on the front porch that wouldn’t disappear … great to feel, hear and see the rain. Wow, it’s been such a long time ...
Getting out: Mission Peaks: Climb 2,500 feet in three miles
I placed the $2 one-day parking pass on my dashboard then looked up from the Ohlone College parking lot at Mission Peak looming overhead. Holy cow, I thought, that thing is way up there. It crossed my mind that maybe today was a good day to rearrange my sock drawer instead.

This past Saturday, I joined nearly 200 others in the search for a woman missing out of Marina. Her photo had been all over the news and in newspapers for a week, as family members sought to find out what happened to Carie Munoz.
