Love the cigar

In 2009 a group of Morgan Hill friends and cigar aficionados so loved the ritual of smoking their cigars that when they heard their local hangout was closing, they pulled together to start their own cigar lounge—a brand new establishment that would satisfy their need for camaraderie and their shared passion for fine cigars.

The Story Behind Christmas Hill Park

What's the story?

Vines may be dormant, but wineries are bustling

In the cold, dark days of winter, our grapevines go dormant. The grape vine stops the uptake of water from its roots to keep moisture from freezing and bursting inside the plant cells. Any remaining water inside the vine is transferred to an inter-cellular area where it can safely freeze without causing any damage. All growth is put on hold to conserve energy for the next growing season.

School marks 50 years

Morgan Hill is a very different place today than it was 50 years ago. Then it was a farming community with a population of some 4,000 residents. The sick were treated in 50-bed Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy; north-south traffic passed directly through downtown on Monterey Highway; the largest employers were a signal flare maker, a travel trailer builder and animal feed processors.

Say thanks to a veteran and remember that in Gilroy we’re all ‘blue’ fans

This time each year a convergence of sorts happens: practicing random acts of kindness and Veterans Day which is Monday, Nov. 11. It reminds me that as Americans we have the opportunity to deliver random acts of kindness because of the noble sacrifices made by those who have or are serving in the armed forces. They have delivered us our freedoms. When you see a soldier or a veteran, thank them for their great service. Buy them a cup of coffee, breakfast or a beer in the airport if the opportunity arises. And remember, those random acts of kindness. They’re good karma, and they will come back to you.
