TERAJI: A taste for kindness, hospitality, compassion
It’s not all of us that get to live our childhood dream.
Dog’s neighborhood enemies make resolution difficult
You know how on New Year's Day you recklessly make those stupid things called resolutions? And you know how one of those resolutions is always to lose weight because basically you've been eating fattening food for the entire holiday season and your pants no longer zip up? And you know how you always feel so much better about yourself when you write down “exercise more, eat less?”
‘Where you lead, I will follow’ (says body to eyes)
When Carole King wrote the lyrics, “Where you lead, I will follow,” she could have been referring to the relationship between your body and your eyes. It's remarkable how much and for how long we will distort our posture in order to look at something. The location of the things you look at, notably your computer monitor, determines the position of your head and neck. And to get your head and neck to the needed position, the rest of your body may join in, and not in a good way.
‘Somewhere’: Obsession with energy and humor
Obsession is the order of the day with a family that dances at the drop of a hat in their apartment. They dream of being on Broadway or in show business – anything where they can perform in front of an audience.
Christians begin preparation for Easter
Despite society’s exuberance regarding Christmas, Easter is “the greatest and oldest feast of the Christian Church.” This ancient holiday commemorates the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ and is the linchpin of a whole series of Christian holy days.
Financial gifts for longtime Valentines
Love is in the air this week, as Valentine’s Day rolls around again. During the course of your life, you’ve probably sent your share of flowers and candy. But if your valentine is also your spouse – and, in particular, your longtime spouse – you may want to go beyond roses and chocolates this year to give a gift that can help lead to financial security.
Looks like another fun-filled sleaze fest in 2013
With 2012 barely behind us, already 2013 is gearing up to be one blowout bonanza of tawdriness.
Is it the guns, the video games or us?
A couple of weeks ago I took in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie Django Unchained. For those of you who know nothing about Tarantino or his movies, his films are the gold standard for Hollywood violent movie content.
Gearing up for a super fun weekend and a visit from the OSU rugby ladies
Can’t wait for Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers to put a whuppin’ on Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens in Sunday’s Super Bowl. Really sick of Ray Lewis fawning all over himself and drawing attention to himself with antics like prostrating himself on the ground in front of the TV cameras. His whole act smacks of demagoguery to the point that if the conversation turns to Ray-ray on the ray-radio or ray TV, I turn the station. The 49ers’ linebacker Patrick Willis, on the other hand, understands that he plays a game for a living and does so with just as much intensity and skill, but a heavy amount of appreciation and humility.
