Wine and painting at Seeker Vineyard
Painting and wine tasting has become a popular trend. Getting groups of people who have never held a paintbrush to come away with a framable piece of artwork while enjoying the best of Santa Clara Valley wines was the goal at a recent Paint and Sip party at Seeker Vineyard in San Martin.
Fall garden markets
Many cool season vegetables can be planted in our South County gardens in the fall. During our winters, nature helps with the watering, and there are fewer weeds and pests. Cool season vegetables include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, chard, kale and beets. The UCCE Master Gardeners have Fall Garden Markets scheduled in Gilroy and Morgan Hill, with varieties especially well-suited to the southern end of the county.
Sheryl Cathers talks about her murals big and small
When painting in oils, I use more of an impressionistic style. I prefer to paint in plein air, painting outdoors, looking directly at the subject and paying specific attention to the effects of light on the subject and landscapes. The paintings are more spontaneous. I am trying to capture a feeling of a moment on the canvas. I am less interested in details. These paintings can be used as studies for a larger studio painting later on, but often stand on their own, typically taking about 3 to 4 hours on site.
