I set down my lunch-time burrito to answer my cell phone. It was a friend cancelling our late afternoon appointment. A moment later, it dawned on me. With that cancellation, I now had two wide open days in front of me. My emotional rope had developed a couple knots, and my head needed clearing. Here was an opportunity for the perfect therapy.

Re: the recent story in the Times about a bobcat seen near Easy Street in Morgan Hill. These beautiful felines are indeed living amongst us. They’re becoming more “urbanized” because development is encroaching on their native habitats and driving them further into residential areas. They are searching for food and water. Bobcats are shy, solitary animals and will not attack humans, if left alone.

Cruciferous is a designation that comprises the Brassica members of the cabbage family, including cavolo nero, mustard and turnip greens, along with cauliflower and collards, plus radishes, horseradish and arugula. The name derives from the flower common to these plants, the four petals of which spread to form a cross. Hence, “crucifer”-ous.
