Calling all videomakers! Or those who have no idea how to use a camcorder! CMAP has a few upcoming training opportunities for you. If you haven’t checked out our workshop calendar lately, allow me to present to you the highlights.

First of all, if you’ve perhaps heard about CMAP or have been toying with the idea of making your own video/TV show, sign up for Orientation. Maybe you’ve been curious as to how a TV show works behind the scenes and want to learn how to run a camera or direct. Either way, Orientation is step one. Our next Orientation is taking place Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. The workshop is free, and you’ll have an opportunity to sign up for other video workshops.

Speaking of… we’ve got a Field Production Workshop on the horizon. On April 17 from 11 – 4pm, you’ll learn how to use CMAP’s camcorders, tripods, mics, lights, etc. … everything you’ve ever wanted to know about videotaping something “on location.” If you plan on borrowing our cameras to tape a school play, or a public service announcement for your non-profit, or a special community event, the Field Production Workshop will best prepare you.

Maybe you’ve got a camera, and Field Production isn’t necessary for you; however, a lesson in editing all of those videos you’ve shot would be divine. As it turns out, CMAP is holding a digital editing workshop simultaneously April 17 from 11 – 4pm. Learn to use our easy Screenplay Editing System so that you can cut out all of that unwanted footage and assemble a masterpiece for airing on Channel 20. In addition, you can learn how to add titles, special effects, and music.

Speaking of (once again)… we’re introducing a brand new workshop at the end of this month called the Music and Sound FX Seminar. When you intend to put a video on TV, you need to be sure that you have permission to use the music on that video. You don’t want Britney Spears coming after you (not that she writes her own songs anyway, but that’s another story …). Using special software, CMAP can teach you how to create music for your video that is copyright free. If you’ve had a little editing experience here but need music, sign up for the April 20 seminar.

Finally, a reminder to non-profit organizations out there who would like some free publicity on our channel. CMAP offers its quarterly free PSA Day April 30. Non-profits serving Gilroy, Hollister, or San Juan Bautista are invited to contact us for more information about how to make a free PSA for airing on the community channels. Call CMAP at 846-4983 or check out the Web site at www.mycmap.org and click on the “Products & Services” link.
