The Gilroy High boys volleyball team swept past host Salinas 25-13, 25-18, 25-16 on Thursday night for its third Tri-County Athletic League Valley Division victory via straight sets, in as many matches.

The Mustangs (5-4 overall, 3-0 TCAL) also have 3-0 wins over San Benito and Palma to start the league slate.

Connor Escobar, who has 47 kills in the three league matches, and Johnny Lester paced the Mustangs with 11 and seven kills, respectively.  Troy Charvet contributed six of the team’s 14 aces.

Gilroy concluded a bust week tonight at Mt. Madonna High. First serve is 6:30 p.m.

• San Benito knocked Christopher High from the ranks of the early season unbeatens, defeating the Cougars in three sets, 25-17, 25-10, 25-20, in Tri-County Athletic LEague Valley Division action Thursday night in Gilroy.
CHS (2-1 TCAL) struggled against the Balers’ size up front, and uncharacteristic unforced errors set the Cougars back. John Day and Justin Laveroni had four kills apiece for CHS.
The Cougars have three matches next week, beginning Monday against nonleague opponent Sobrato. CHS then goes to Salinas High on Tuesday and crosstown Gilroy High on Thursday.
