SALINAS – Karina Daniels made sure the Alisal Trojans didn’t
have a chance to steal a victory. Daniels’ match-winning service
ace sent the Mustangs home with a 3-1 triumph (25-17, 19-25, 25-22,
26-24) in the teams’ Tri-County Athletic League opener Thursday
night in Salinas.
SALINAS – No reason for the match to get any closer than it needed.

With the Gilroy High girls varsity volleyball team clinging to a two-sets-to-one match lead and a paper-thin 25-24 advantage in the fourth set, Karina Daniels made sure the Alisal Trojans didn’t have a chance to steal a victory. Daniels’ match-winning service ace sent the Mustangs home with a 3-1 triumph (25-17, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24) in the teams’ Tri-County Athletic League opener Thursday night in Salinas.

The ace was Daniels’ seventh of the match. The Mustangs move to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in league

“They are playing really well together,” head coach Josh Corioso said. “They are meshing together and they are working harder than ever.”

Randi Groppe recorded a team-high seven kills while Gabby Flores followed close behind with six kills. Demornay Granado had a hand in everything, posting three aces, four kills and four blocks on the evening. Megan Wheat contributed four kills and Erin Chislom had 16 assists.

The Mustangs pick up TCAL play next Tuesday at Notre Dame before hosting rival San Benito on Thursday. Both matches are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. or 22 minutes after the junior varsity game.

Notes: The GHS frosh and junior varsity teams won their matches 2-1.
