Dear Editor,
A great thing happened in the scorching heat on Sunday, July 23 at the Dutchman’s Pizza parking lot. Several local agencies (GENA, GANAS, MACSA, El Portal Leadership Academy, City of Gilroy Community Development) as well as the community came together to raise money for the Brayan Trejo family.
The Gilroy community has been very generous with donations since the accident that claimed the life of 5-year-old Brayan.
That Sunday, 115-degree heat was a test of our commitment to help the Trejo Family, but we endured. The car show was a success with more than 20 entries thanks to the Impala Car Club and the Quistian Family. Zachary and his flying guitar, Dynamic Street Rockers, Los Tiliches Band, Western Academy Martial Arts, Hawgwild Karaoke DJ and 5-year-old Marian kept the crowds entertained.
The business community also came through with some great raffle prizes thanks to Happy Dog Pizza, Dicar Insurance, Rosso’s Furniture, Weinershnitzel, La Roca Hair Design, Hair Studio 41, Baskin Robbins, Safeway, Nob Hill Foods, Del Sol Market, Hobby World, Casa Mia Furniture, Taco Bell, California Silk Screen, Long’s, K& K Nails and the James Group.
Gilroy’s boxing champ Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero took pictures and signed autograph’s for over two hours in the heat with all proceeds also going to the Trejo Family. We are very fortunate to have “The Ghost” who is always willing to give back to the community. The Trejo Family acknowledged all of the people who were also touched and came forward with donations, prayers and support to help them through this rough time. An example of this was a lady who left Dutchman’s after hearing what was going on in the parking lot and gave the family a $100 bill and walked away saying “It was just something I had to do. I feel for the family.”
That was the feeling of ALL the volunteers. The committee for the Trejo Family Fundraiser thanks you!
