ATASCADERO, CALIF. – Anchorpoint Christian’s slow start against the North Country Christian Crusaders left the 8-man football team from Gilroy too big of a hole to crawl out from Saturday in Atascadero.

As a result, the Warriors lost 38-6, leaving them a victory short of making the playoffs in their second season of play.

“We were totally prepared for everything that happened but there were bad breaks,” Anchorpoint coach K.C. Adams said. “Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, but … the better team won.”

Trailing 30-6 at halftime, the Warriors played better in the final two quarters on defense but didn’t have the answers on offense. Christian McCrimmon scored the Warriors’ lone touchdown on a 1-yard run. With the victory, the Crusaders improved to 6-1 overall.

“I think if [Anchorpoint] was a third-, fourth-year program, we would be ready for [this kind of challenge], but we’re looking good for the future,” Adams said.

The Warriors (6-2) finish their season Saturday in Gilroy against Marina.
