W.E.R.C. does not receive operating funds from any government agency to care for wildlife, relying solely on donations. W.E.R.C. volunteers provide their time, expertise and “elbow grease,” but the public can help native wildlife, too, by participating in and donating to W.E.R.C.’s events, helping to raise the money required for animal food (including mealworms, seeds, fruit and vegetables, formulas and rodents), medical supplies, new enclosures. Facility maintenance is a significant facet of successful wildlife rehabilitation.
To help with fund raising, the public is invited to W.E.R.C.’s annual barbeque and auction being held June 18 at San Martin Country Park.
There will be barbecued food with all the trimmings, silent and oral auctions of a variety of items, bidding on attendance at a future bobcat release, and games and activities for the children. There will also be live music, door prizes and more. Meet W.E.R.C.’s animal ambassadors, including their newest, a tiny Northern Pygmy Owl, whose winning name will be announced at the event.
