Gilroy – West Hills College played long ball to wipe out an early six-run deficit.

Troy Hamilton’s two-run home run was followed by David White’s grand slam during a six-run sixth that lifted the Falcons to a 10-6 win over Gavilan.

“We let them hang around,” Rams’ assistant coach Bobby Reggiani said. “You have to put up more runs. They got the one big hit.”

It was a two-out hit as well. After Hamilton’s two-run homer sliced the deficit to 6-5, two walks and a hit loaded the bases for White. He delivered.

Gavilan (2-5) scored five times in the first with Shane Christman’s bases-clearing double the big blow. The Rams made it 6-0 after two innings, but collected just three hits the rest of the game.

“They did what they needed to do to get six runs,” West Hills coach Archie Hodgdon said. “We played sloppy, kicked the ball around. We’re mostly freshmen. We had won four in a row and didn’t come together early. We have a lot of talent. It took over and got us back in the game. At this level on the road every win is a good win.”

Gavilan is in Southern California at the end of the week, facing Los Angeles Mission College at Sylmar on Thursday, and at Los Angeles City College for a doubleheader that starts at 11am Friday.
