William (Fritz) Horst died Sept. 22, 2003, in Fremont. He was 88 years old.

He was born Jan. 13, 1915, in San Jose. He was the loving husband of Loraine Horst of 60 years; devoted father of Agnes Telfer of Fremont and Gary Horst of Chino Valley, Ariz.; dear brother of Gertrude Cadwallader of Rungsted Kyst, Denmark; devoted grandfather to Karen Thomas, Janine Nicholson, Bill Horst, Fritz Horst, Shelia Lindahl and Debbie McBride; and loving great grandfather to five children.

Fritz was a life-long Santa Clara County resident. He lived in Gilroy most of his adult life, working for F&P Cannery as a millwright and a co-owner of Oak Horst Cafe with his wife.

His passion for agriculture led him to win numerous awards at the Santa Clara County Fair for his wine and vegetables. He was a member for many years of the Santa Clara Farm Bureau and the Morgan Hill Grange. His hobbies were rock hounding, fishing and coin collecting.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services today at 3:30 p.m. at Wyant & Smith Funeral Home, 174 N. Sunnyvale Ave., Sunnyvale. Interment will be Saturday at noon at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park in Watsonville. Visitation will be after 1:30 p.m. today at Wyant and Smith Funeral Home.
