Salinas – Gilroy High’s Ben Wilson capped a solid senior season by finishing second in the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament last week.

Wilson eased past Derek Panger of San Benito 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and then beat Palma’s Nick Francioni 7-6 (7-4), 5-5 when the Chieftain’s No. 2 singles player had to default because of cramping in the semifinals.

Wilson, who finished 11-3, was no match for Salinas freshman Farren Casad in the final. Casad won 6-3, 6-1.

Other Gilroy players didn’t fare as well.

Monte Vista Christian’s Aaron Shapiro defeated Gilroy No. 2 singles player Matt Chan 6-1, 6-3 in an opening-round match. The doubles teams of Zach Singh and Mitch Souza, as well as Esteban Delgadillo and Edwin Hernandez each dropped three-set first-round matches.
