Gilroy – A 21-year-old Church Street resident was stabbed by his ex-girlfriend after she and two female friends showed up at his doorstep challenging his new girlfriend to a fight, police said.
Vanessa Monique Sarmiento, 18, of Monterey Road, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.
About 12:30am Monday Sarmiento and two friends arrived at 6751 Church St. where the couple resides, and began yelling for the victim’s girlfriend to come outside.
“They wanted to confront the new girlfriend,” Gilroy Police Sgt. Wes Stanford said. “They wanted her to come outside and fight. Apparently, she had made some disparaging comments about the suspect’s baby.”
The victim came outside after the suspects were told to leave and was stabbed in the leg, police said.
Witnesses called police about the disturbance and the suspects fled on foot. Officers located the three women at 11th Street and Garden Court less than a two tenths of a mile away. The weapon has not been located.
The man suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital where he was treated and released.
A 17-year-old Morgan Hill woman and 19-year-old Gilroy resident were detained until the suspect was identified by witnesses. The case will be sent to the District Attorney’s office and charges against the two other females are pending, police said.
