Santa Clara County Farm Bureau launches Facebook and Twitter accounts
The Santa Clara County Farm Bureau launched Facebook and Twitter social media accounts to cultivate its relationship with its members and to reach out to consumers in the county. On the bureau’s “Silicon Valley Farms and Food” Facebook page, the bureau plans to share photos of local farms, ranches, food, recipes and media stories and highlight food producers. The bureau’s Twitter page, @FarmBureauSCC, will be geared towards activities that support farmers and ranchers in Santa Clara County, California and the U.S. The tweets will cover topics such as how the bureau is supporting farmers by keeping their water rates low, how the bureau is strengthening the local food system and who the bureau is partnering with in the community.
Nominate your farm or ranch for $10,000 Leopold Conservation Award
Local farms and ranches have a chance to win $10,000 dollars. Sand County Foundation, the California Farm Bureau Federation and Sustainable Conservation are accepting applications for the Leopold Conservation Award through July 12. In honor of the conservationist Aldo Leopold, the Leopold Conservation Award honors California farmers, ranchers and private landowners exemplifying extraordinary achievement in voluntary, responsible stewardship, conservation and management of natural resources. The 2013 Leopold Conservation Award will be presented in December at the California Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting in Monterey.
California Farm Bureau launches 2013 photo contest
The California Farm Bureau launched its 32nd annual California Farm Bureau Photo Contest. County Farm Bureau members or contributing members to the California Bountiful Foundation who are amateur photographers have the opportunity to win hundreds of dollars for their photos. The grand prize winner will receive $500. For each category, the bureau will give $250 for first place winners and $100 for second place winners. The categories this year are: Fresh and Local, Kids and Critters on the Farm, All in a Day’s Work on the Farm, Rural Scenic, and Budding Artists (ages 13 and younger). Presented by the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, prizes for Budding Artists include a total of $350 in cash. All entries must be postmarked or submitted online by Sept. 30 2013. Entry forms and official contest rules are available online at http://www.cfbf.com/programs/photo/.
