Xander Bowers led the Blue Knighs with eight points. Christa Arroyo and Rigo Vasquez each had four points Lucas Miller and Mason Bryant both played tough defense.
Warriors 23, Gators 10
Noah Vasquez led the Gators with four points. Dominic Bettancourt, Kyle Ettema and Cameron Stone each had two points.
4th-5th Grade Girls
Panthers 14, Purple All-Stars 10
Katie Gurries had eight points for the Purple All-Stars, and Emily Barham had two.
6th-8th Grade Girls
Barracudas 27, Spartans 6
Lindsey Saccone had 12 points to lead the shorthanded Barracudas. Jessica Gonzales and Maddie Peterson each had six. Naomi Newton had two, and Kaslin Ettema had one free throw.
7th-9th Boys
Crusaders 40, Red 23
Alex Gutierez had 11 points to lead the Crusaders. David Putz had 10, Rueben Perez had nine, Gregory Spellman had six and Austin Boyd had four.
Baumgartner Receives Award
The Yellow Hornets and Black Spurs head coach Mike Baumgartner was named the recipient of the Mason Kunimura Youth Sports Coach of the Year award by the The City of Gilroy Community Services Department.
Baumgartner coached the 5th-6th grade and 7th-9th grade teams. The award was established to honor Mason Kunimura, who taught many young people to learn and love the game of basketball and promote the quality of coaching he was recognized for. Kunimura’s sense of fairness and dignity touched all persons involved. Baumgartner received the award Saturday from members of the Kunimura family and from Community Services.
