Two juveniles were arrested after an officer observed a Honda Civic run a stop sign on Moro Drive on Friday, June 15 at 7:45 p.m. The officer tried to make contact with the driver, who allegedly fled and sped up to 80 miles per hour on Santa Teresa Boulevard, running multiple stop signs and a stop light, before crashing into a parked car on Lions Creek Drive.
The driver, a 14-year-old Gilroy male, and the passenger, a 13-year-old Gilroy male, ran from the scene. The driver was caught and arrested within a few minutes, but the passenger escaped and wasn’t arrested until the following day.
The car, a 2010 brown Honda Civic, belonged to the driver’s mother. The driver was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, abating an officer, a hit-and-run, and for driving unlicensed.
The passenger was arrested for all the charges related to the incident, plus possession of graffiti tools.
