South County Martial Arts recently celebrated the graduation of four students to the rank of First Dan in the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do. The four were required to perform hand and kicking techniques, forms and sparring. They finished their examination with board and brick breaking techniques. Front row, new black belts Marliz Copado, Valentin Velasquez, Javier Martinez and Eduardo Martinez displaying their certificates. Back, children’s assistant instructor Josue Martinez, head instructor Fortino Martinez and senior advisors Robert Van Tassel and Ron Kretz. There are currently openings in both the children’s and adult classes. Classes are taught in both English and Spanish. Those interested can call 968-8328.
