Merced – Aaron Duncan scored 20 points Tuesday and Merced pulled away from Gavilan in the second half en route to a 76-50 win in men’s junior college basketball.

Daniel Wynn scored 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead the Rams (1-4). Eric Van Vliet had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.

“We started well and executed well in the first half,” Gavilan coach Tito Addison said. “In the second half, we had 20 turnovers due to our inexperience. Our guys didn’t handle the pressure well.”

The Rams, who shot 9 of 11 at the foul line in the first half, trailed 39-36 before a second half in which they had six more turnovers than points.

“Daniel Wynn did a great job of being aggressive,” Addison said. “We need other people to step up and play to their ability.”

Gavilan is in action at 4pm today when it faces Mendocino College in the first round of the Napa Tournament. The Rams are assured of two games in the 8-team tourney but need to win at least once to get a third game.
