Hussey nets team-high 16 in 75-42 loss to Santa Cruz
BURLINGAME – After winning their opening game of the Burlingame Tournament, the Lady Mustang hoopsters ran into problems Thursday against an athletic Santa Cruz team, falling 75-42.
“We played a really tough team, a really tall and quick team that got the ball down court on us and just pressed us and caused us some difficulties,” said second-year head coach Kari Williams. “The girls came back and kinda got their heads again towards the end of the second and in the third.”
Sophomore forward Catherine Hussey led the Lady Mustangs with a season-high 16 points. Freshman point guard Kristen Campos netted seven points, while senior center Sarah Hoeft and junior forward Michelle DiFiore added six points a piece.
“It was a good learning experience for us,” Williams said. “We’re still looking forward to having all 12 players available. We’ll keep working hard. This is what the pre-season is for, to see what our weaknesses are and what we need to work on.”
Up next, Gilroy will compete in the Seaside Sweet 16 Tournament, starting Jan. 26 in Seaside.
