GILROY – The Gilroy High baseball team’s non-league home clash with Leland was delayed two days due to rain – but the extended time did not help the Mustangs out as they fell 5-3 to the visitors.

Senior right-hander John Kirkish went six solid innings before gettting into trouble in the seventh – walking one batter and making way for senior left-hander Todd Gimenez, who finished out the game.

The Mustangs committed three errors – leading to their demise.

For four inning though, Gilroy hung tough.

Senior second baseman Eric Gonzalez (1-for-4) doubled in a run and senior Ruben Chavez also belted a two-bagger.

In addition, Gimenez singled and drove in two runs; Kirkish finished 1-for-3; and junior catcher Ben Hemeon went 1-for-4.

The Mustangs return to league action Wednesday with a home game against Salinas at 4 p.m. and then follow with another home game Saturday against Hollister at noon.
