Alison Mitchell and John DeCarli are engaged to be married.
Alison, daughter of Alan and Beverly Mitchell of Aromas, recently graduated from Gavilan College, where she obtained an associate’s degree in registered nursing. She is a registered nurse at Country Villa in Watsonville.
John, son of Greg and Kathy DeCarli of Gonzales, is a 2000 graduate of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, with a bachelor’s degree in crop science. He is an agricultural pest control adviser with Earthbound Farm in San Juan Bautista.
The couple, who reside in Salinas, plan an October 2011 wedding.

Kalynn Jean Gifford
Kalynn Jean Gifford was born Oct. 28, 2010 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Annette Ragona and Jason Gifford of Hollister. She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces.
HONORS
Preston McClellan
Morgan Hill resident Preston McClellan was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout Nov. 21. He is the son of Ron and Julie McClellan, and is a member of Troop 709 unit of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter-day Saints in Morgan Hill. He is a third generation Eagle Scout that also includes his brother Spencer, his uncle and father. McClellan’s service project was repairing and repainting street barriers in Morgan Hill.
He is a student at Live Oak High School. He began his Scouting adventures as a Cub Scout in Pack 709 and progressed through, and earned his Arrow-of-Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouts. On his way to Eagle Scout, he earned more than 21 merit badges and held leadership positions in Troop 709, including Senior Patrol Leader.
Through his Scouting life, he has been camping several times in the Sierra’s and will be going on a High Adventure trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this summer.
