Gilroy won its second straight league contest, beating out North Monterey County by six strokes Monday at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch.
The Mustangs’ Magnus Myhr earned medalist honors for the third straight week after carding a 38. He led the team, which combined for a 233 score. NMC was second with 239, Alisal third with 262 and Alvarez was fourth at 263. North Salinas was fifth with a score of 293 and Watsonville finished sixth with no score.Â
Alex Bakita carded a 46 for Gilroy and Avery Trevino was close behind with a 49. Nick Triolo and Desmon Hernandez both scored a 50, while Alex Green shot a 51.
LACROSSE
Cougars top Salinas
Christopher improved to 2-0 following a dominant 10-5 win over Salinas Friday on the road.Â
Anthony Sammut led the team with four goals and an assist. Zach Green and Cole Rhodes each scored two goals for the Cougars. Rhodes also had two assists.Â
Andrew Busch and Esteban Favela added a goal a piece. Busch also had an assist for Christopher.Â
The Cougars will host Watsonville at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
BOYS TENNIS
Cougars top Alvarez
All of the Christopher boys tennis matches have been decided by a 5-2 score and Thursday’s match against Everett Alvarez was no different.Â
The Cougars won 5-2 after sweeping the singles matches and notching a ‘W’ for the No. 1 doubles team.Â
Destin Cockcroft, Dominic Nguyen, Geoffrey He and Tom Madruga—playing as No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles, respectively—all recorded wins for Christopher’s Madruga lost his first set, but won the second 6-2 to force a tiebreaker. He secured the sweep with a 10-5 victory.Â
Isaiah Rugerio and Sam Fernandez won the No. 1 doubles match 6-5, 6-3.Â
Christopher also lost 5-2 on March 17 to Pacific Grove. It was the second meeting of the two teams so far this season. The Cougars beat Oakwood by the same score on March 12.Â
They will be back on the court at 4 p.m. today to host San Benito.Â
SOFTBALL
CHS blasts past Harbor, Aptos
Christopher’s bats were red hot as it took on Harbor and Aptos last week.Â
The Cougars beat Aptos 20-1 on Wednesday at home. They then topped Aptos 12-6 on Friday to improve to 5-2 overall this season.Â

Christopher will play its league opener against Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home.Â
Mitty beats Gilroy
Liezl Clark sent one sailing over the fence for the Mustangs, but it wasn’t enough as they lost 4-2 to Archbishop Mitty Thursday on the road.Â
Clark homered in the top of the seventh, but unfortunately it was too, too late for her team.Â
Mitty jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Gilroy could answer with a run in the top of the fourth. Adrianna Figone doubled and scored two batters later when Nicole Dan singled and cut the lead to 2-1.Â
Mitty got the run right back in the bottom of the inning and scored another run in the bottom of the fifth.
Lauren Castro was handed the loss after allowing four runs through six innings. She also struck out three batters.
Gilroy (4-7 overal) will play its league opener against North Salinas at 4:30 p.m. today on the road.Â
BASEBALL
Mustangs drop two to Monterey
Gilroy was shutout twice by the Toreadors last week, losing 7-0 Thursday at home and 5-0 Friday in Monterey.Â

The Mustangs (2-8 overall, 1-5 in league) will play at 4 p.m. today at Monte Vista Christian.Â
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Mustangs fall to Carmel, Wilcox
Despite a breakout night from Ryan Nguyen, Gilroy lost in straight sets to Wilcox Friday. It loss came on the heels of another 3-0 loss to Carmel on the road Thursday.Â
Against Wilcox, the Mustangs lost 17-25, 17-25, 16-25. Nguyen had a career-high 12 kills in the match. Kade McDermott added four kills of his own. Tanner Eastman chipped in with four kills and an ace.Â
Gilroy lost 20-25, 14-25, 11-25 to Carmel. Eric Heiser had eight assists and Mark Oliveria had two aces.Â
The Mustangs (3-7 overall, 0-3 in league) will take on Watsonville at 6:30 p.m. tonight on the road.Â
