Gilroy – There’s a new place in town to enjoy traditional Asian dishes such as wonton noodle soup, crispy noodles and pad thai, but Luu Noodle, which opened Thursday in the Gilroy Crossing shopping center, has a distinctly modern feel.

“What separates us from other noodle houses is our remote ordering system,” said Susan Luu. “Orders go directly to the cook and the food comes out in an instant. Within five or 10 minutes you’ll have a dish on the table.”

That, Luu said, makes Luu Noodle house a great destination for diners in a rush who want alternatives to traditional fast foods, and it’s a formula that has made the Luu family business a success.

The Luus opened their first store in San Jose in 1994. A year later they opened a second in Milpitas. The Gilroy restaurant is their seventh, all of which are owned and operated by family members.

“My brother David is the brains of the operation,” Luu said. “His creativity is why we’re successful.”

Luu said that the recent development in Gilroy made it an attractive location for the 145-seat restaurant, and they chose Gilroy Crossing because it’s visible from highways 101 and 152.

“The biggest headaches was construction, but the city of Gilroy was very nice and worked closely with us,” Luu said. “The permit process was very quick. We hope the people of Gilroy welcome us like the city of Gilroy has.”
