SAN JUAN BAUTISTA – A light earthquake occurred late Monday night about seven miles west of Hollister, causing no reported injuries and only minor reported damage.

The 4.3 magnitude quake happened at 10:38 p.m. and lasted, with aftershocks, about 30 seconds. After an initial slight jolt, the earthquake created a gradually fading roll.

The U.S. Geological Survey pinpointed the epicenter of the four-mile deep earthquake about three miles southwest of San Juan Bautista – where at least one call of broken glass was reported.

The Hollister Fire Department received no calls regarding the earthquake. Nor did the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department.

Workers at Mineta San Jose International Airport, 45 miles northwest of the epicenter, also could feel shaking.
