Gilroy – Gilroy residents who would like to share their memories of living or growing up in a rural area are invited to submit a brief essay for the Santa Clara County Library program “Rural Scribe: Memories of Country Life.”

Entries are due at the Gilroy Library by March 15.

Writers may contribute a memoir or an interview of a family member or local resident.

Selected authors will have their work published on the Santa Clara County Library Web site and be honored at a National Library Week event in April.

Application information is available at the Gilroy Library and on the Web site www.santaclaracountylib.org. Judging will be made by a panel of local writers, educators, historians, librarians and other community members.

The “Rural Scribe” is part of Silicon Valley Reads program which encourages everyone in the community to read one book, at one time, and discuss it.

The 2005 selection is “Epitaph for a Peach: Four Seasons On My Family Farm” by David Mas Masumoto.

For more information, contact the Gilroy Library at 842-8207 or e-mail [email protected].
