Police arrested a 38-year-old Gilroy woman Sept. 20 and charged her with attempted murder. Tanika Billie Johnson allegedly stabbed another Gilroy woman multiple times before she was taken into custody, according to a Gilroy Police Department press release.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Welburn Avenue, in response to a report of a possible stabbing. When they arrived, officers found a 42-year-old Gilroy woman suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said.
The victim, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a trauma center via air ambulance. She is currently in critical condition, but is expected to survive, police said.
“Preliminary information revealed that a verbal confrontation ensued prior to the assault,” GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said. “This investigation is ongoing and the motive for the assault is yet to be determined.”
Police located Johnson a short distance from the crime scene after getting a description of the suspect. She was taken into custody and was transported to Santa Clara County Jail without incident, police said.
Johnson faces a charge of attempted murder and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 24.
