Hollister officials have approved 4 percent annual raises for city employees that amount to an additional $516,40 from the general fund in the 2008-09 fiscal year, according to figures released today by the city.

That total among six employee groups comes to about 36 percent of the $1.43 million that Hollister City Council members have allocated toward new hires and services – from funds generated by the Measure T sales-tax increase approved last year – during that same time frame.

Hollister officials have finished negotiations with all city groups and most recently, on Nov. 24, approved raises for the final three: mid-management, confidential and executive management employees. City employee groups have noted in the past how they had gone multiple years without raises.

The following are the additional costs with the raises for each bargaining unit in the 2008-09 fiscal year:

– Confidential employees: $18,500

– Executive management: $32,500

– Police officers association: $146,000

– Firefighters union: $121,000

– Mid-management association: $52,490

– Service Employees International Union: $146,000

Hollister officials, meanwhile, are operating with a $283,000 deficit this fiscal year. That does not include about $1.4 million from the $2.8 million annual Measure T projection already allocted to pay off a total deficit this year, without the injection, of $1.66 million.
