At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, Dawn Appleman saw a raccoon in a tree near
the edge of her property, police said. She reached for her pellet
gun, aimed and fired. She missed, but managed to frighten away the
animal.
Yet, while she scared away the animal, she attracted the
attention of police.
Most Wanted nabbed

Police arrested the city’s most wanted man without a fight. Gilroy officers spotted Daniel Caspary, 34, near Welburn and Kern avenues about 8:30 p.m. Thursday and then followed him to a residence at an unspecified address, where they took him into custody without issue, according to officer Michael Bolton.

Caspary lived along the 8400 block of Wayland Lane and had been wanted for 62 days for violating the conditions of his parole, which he had been on for committing forgery, according to police. His trial date had not been set as of Monday afternoon.

Assault and robbery

Three young female suspects attacked a victim about 2:50 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of First and Rosanna streets. One of the suspects slashed the victim’s face with a broken beer bottle, and then the suspects allegedly stole $60 from the victim, according to police.

Juvenile taggers arrested

Police arrested three juvenile males Saturday night for tagging a vehicle and several walls at Rod Kelley Elementary School, 8755 Kern Ave. The minors were released to their parents.

Pellet-gun vigilance

She told police she was trying to defend her daughter and cats from the raccoon, police said. Police still cited Appleman for firing at the animal because it sat in her neighbor’s tree.
