John D. Dalcin

John entered into peaceful rest December 1, 2011, at the age of 88.

John was born in Somerset, CO on May 23, 1923. He was the oldest of three children from James and Angelina Dalcin. The Dalcin family moved to California when John was very young settling in Gilroy. He attended local schools and graduated from Gilroy High School. John served in the US Army in World War II as Private First Class Battery A 261st Field Artillery Battalion.

After his service, he became a truck driver for Gentry’s for several years. He then became the owner of Signal Service Station. He landed his dream job as the Transportation Supervisor for the G.U.S.D. After retiring from G.U.S.D. he continued to work part time at Orchard Supply were he enjoyed working in special orders. John retired from Orchard in his seventies.

John will be remembered as a special, kind, and thoughtful man who loved to work with his hands. If anything needed to be fixed he could do it. John also enjoyed belonging to The Garlic Roamers RV Group. He often served as Wagon Master on many of their runs. John was a member of the St. Mary’s Parish for 80 years and attended mass every morning until becoming ill.

Preceded in death by his wife Dina Dalcin, John is survived by his daughters Donna Jones and Deby Dakin, Grandsons Marc Stelling (wife Jimene), Brian Stelling (wife Lori), and Cameron Stelling (wife Serena) and 5 great grandchildren Laila, Haylie, Sierra, Blake and Logan.

Memorial services were held Monday, December 5, 2011, at Habing Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers contributions to the America Heart Association is preferred.
