Clara County Superior Court Wednesday on attempted murder
charges.
San Martin – Seventeen-year-old Eladio Cortez of Gilroy appeared in Santa Clara County Superior Court Wednesday on attempted murder charges.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office submitted a motion to charge him as an adult for the Oct. 28 gang-related shooting of two Gilroy teens outside DMart.

Both the 14- and 16-year-old male victims suffered shotgun pellet wounds to the back and were flown to San Jose area hospitals where they were later released.

Cortez was arrested by Anti-Crime Team members Nov 18.

A second suspect is still at large, however, the vehicle police believe was used during the shooting was recovered outside Gilroy.

According to police, the victims were involved in a verbal altercation with the suspects before the shooting.

Cortez will be back in court to enter a plea Dec. 12.
