It’s been a week for embezzlement, as well as several other miscellaneous criminal acts, for the Gilroy Police Department.
Stealing gas and cash
At 2:25 p.m. June 19, Meridian West Specialties Inc. on East Luchessa Avenue reported one of their employees had been pocketing cash from sales and using the company’s gas card to fill up his own tank on numerous occasions for a total of about $1,500 in theft.
Nike employee steals from cash drawer
Nineteen-year-old Travis Franco, a Nike Shoe Store employee in the Gilroy Premium Outlets on Arroyo Circle, had allegedly been skimming cash transactions over a two month period for a total of $300 stolen cash. He was arrested at 2:50 p.m. June 19.
Beer burglary
Cesar Delgado and Jose Penaloza, both 18 of San Jose, were arrested for commercial burglary after attempting to steal an 18 pack of Corona and a 30 pack of Budweiser at 7:12 p.m. June 23. They allegedly walked into Safeway on First Street and stole beer. When an officer tried to stop them, they bailed on foot. They were quickly arrested for the burglary and for resisting arrest. The pair was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Hotel guest steals TV
At 12 p.m. June 20, a hotel off Murray Avenue reported that a guest stole a 40-inch flat screen television when he checked out of his hotel room. A report on the incident has not been finalized.
