Crime briefs are taken from the weekly press report sent out by the Gilroy Police Department. Officers recently dealt with juvenile debauchery, piracy and a stolen prosthetic limb worth $30,000.

Drunk juvenile

A juvenile male got three sheets to the wind Friday at 9:31 a.m. in Gilroy, but was unable to sail out of the grasp of officers on the 8300 block of Kelton Drive. The juvenile had initially refused to leave the residence, which prompted family members inside the house to call police for help. However, when GPD arrived the juvenile was outside the residence trying to get back in. He was arrested for public intoxication and then released into the care of his grandmother, who resides at a different address.

Fraud

Leticia Ortiz-Ramos, 30, of San Jose discovered on Saturday that even if it’s done on the 100 block of Old Gilroy Street in Gilroy and not on the high seas, piracy is still a crime. Following an anonymous tip, Ortiz-Ramos was arrested at 5:04 p.m. and all her booty – which totaled 740 DVDs and 100 CDs – was plundered by the GPD.

Residential Burglary

During a burglary on the 8200 block of Kern Avenue on Friday, a false leg worth $30,000; along with $6,500 in cash; a bulletproof vest worth $10,000; a Hilti concrete nail gun and a U.S. passport were all stolen by unknown suspect(s) between 4:30 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. It is unclear whether the victim was inside the residence at the time of the burglary.
