Holly Lam pitched a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts to lead Gilroy High’s softball team to a 2-0 home win over Carmel on Thursday.
Lam issued only one walk as the Mustangs ran their record to 7-1 overall.
Lauren Castro (1-for-2) and Amber Gamboa each drove in one run for the Mustangs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Christopher 4, Watsonville 3 – Winning pitcher Angelica Carrillo struck out four as the Cougars snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-4 overall.
BOYS TENNIS
Christopher’s boys tennis team swept in singles play on its way to a win over Alisal.
The Cougars got singles points from Victor Vong (6-1, 6-0), Jeff Kong (6-1, 6-3), Josh Hernandez (6-2, 6-0) and Ryan Cockcroft (6-2, 6-0).
Christopher got doubles points from Geoffrey He and Destin Cockcroft (6-1, 6-2), Chris Drewry and Jerry Kuang (6-1, 6-7(7-5), 10-5), and John Cunha and Austin Sepulveda (6-2, 6-2).
BASEBALL
Monte Vista Christian 2, Christopher 1 – Tyler Fhurong went 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run, but the Cougars fell on the road.
Makaio Duyao knocked in the run for the Cougars.
Monte Vista Christian’s Patrick Muller pitched a complete game.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
San Benito 3, Christopher 0 – The host Balers rolled to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of the Cougars.
Christopher’s Justin Laveroni had eight kills, and teammates Manny Salcedo, Connor McConkie and John Day had three kills each. Phil Castro had 17 assists for the Cougars, who got six digs and one ace from Francisco Rodriguez.
TRACK AND FIELD
Christopher swept a meet at Alvarez, with the Cougars’ boys winning 89-45 and the girls winning 92-45.
Christopher’s Natalie Gutierrez won the high jump with a program-record mark of 5 feet. The Cougars’ girls also got victories from Haley Romero in the long jump, Allison Foster in the triple jump, Kaelin Sylva in the pole vault, Jamie Boutté in the 1,600-meter run and Olivia Baxter in the 200.
For Christopher’s boys, Bryan Pipkin won the pole vault with a school-record mark of 13 feet. Also for the Cougars, Jack Galloway won the long jump at 18-7 1/2, Cody Oberlander took the high jump with a school-record leap of 6-3, Jeremiah Ofiana won the 110 hurdles, Shane Suttles won the shot put and Wyatt Rocheleau won the 400.
