Under the influence of a controlled substance

Ruben Carrillo, 44, of Gilroy, 10 a.m. Sunday, near Monterey Road and Eighth Street for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic needle.

Michael Robert Jiosa, 24, of San Jose, 7 a.m. Friday, on the 7100 block of Croy Road in Morgan Hill for possession of narcotics, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of hypodermic needles.

Cesar Gonsalez Montes, 21, of Hollister, 2:16 a.m. Sept. 20, near Monterey Road and Luchessa Avenue for being under the influence of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.

Ignacia Diaz Flores, 46, of Gilroy, 2 p.m. Sept. 18, at the Gilroy Caltrain Station near Seventh Street and Monterey Road.

Richard Paul Cortez, 38, of Gilroy, 1:27 a.m. Sept. 15, near Monterey Street and Leavesley Road.

Offensive substance

Aleta Brantley, 55, of San Jose, 6:50 p.m. Sept. 23, near Monterey Street and Leavesley Road after deputies found her squatting behind the bus shelter over a pile of excrement and used napkins with her pants down to her knees.

Drunk in public

Ronald Alfred Cermeno II, 23, of San Martin, 8:21 p.m. Sept. 22, on the 100 block of Oak Street in San Martin.

Burglary

Hector Flores, 49, of San Jose, 5:55 a.m. Sept. 21, on the 15000 block of Monterey Road in Morgan Hill after deputies were dispatched to an alarm call and found Flores had broken a window at a church and fell asleep inside. Flores, who is on probation for trespassing, admitted to breaking the window to get out of the cold and also rummaged through some drawers and removed a $2,000 40-inch flat-screen television from its wall mount and dropped it.

Possession of cocaine

Tomas Rene Garcia, 32, of Watsonville, 2:04 a.m. Sept. 17, near Welburn Avenue and Glenwood Drive.

Unlicensed driver

Alberto Bolanos Gomez, 21, of Gilroy, 10:50 a.m. Sept. 13, near First Street and Miller Avenue for driving without a license and giving false information to a police officer.

Vandalism

Jordan Knorr, 18, of Morgan Hill, broke a window at Advent Ministries group home on the 1200 block of West Edmundson Avenue in Morgan Hill with her fist, 2:10 p.m. Sept. 16. She claimed it was an accident and agreed to pay for the window at a later time but the reporting party requested prosecution.

Theft of firearm

Joel Gordon Barnes, 39, of Morgan Hill, stole his ex-wife’s shotgun from the 13700 block of Sycamore Drive, between 12 a.m. June 1 and 11 a.m. Sept. 12. Read more about Barnes’ run from deputies and later capture and the brutal manslaughter that earned him 12 years in prison.

Auto theft

Daniel Gutierrez, 43, of Gilroy, stole his friend’s 1985 silver Chevrolet Corvette from the 1000 block of Buena Vista Avenue, between 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 16. The vehicle was later found and impounded by the Gilroy Police Department.

Tony Diaz, 66, of Gilroy, stole his ex-girlfriend’s 2002 white Dodge Neon from the 15200 block of La Alameda Drive in Morgan Hill, 1 p.m. Sept. 5.

Other sheriff’s incidents

Grand theft

A pneumatic impact wrench worth $550 was stolen from a 1990 white Chevrolet pickup on the 700 block of Las Animas Avenue, between 3 p.m. Aug. 1 and 3 p.m. Aug. 15.

Thirty palm trees and miscellaneous tools worth $4,600 were stolen from a nursery on the 410 block of Lena Avenue, between 8 a.m. Sept. 11 and 8 a.m. Sept. 13. Then, eight Canary Island date palm trees in 15-gallon pots were stolen, between 6 p.m. Sept. 17 and 10 a.m. Sept. 18.

Vandalism

All four tires on a 1993 beige Logan horse trailer were slashed, causing about $400 in damage, on the 2400 block of Ric Drive, between 8 a.m. Sept. 21 and 12 p.m. Sept. 23.

Identity theft

A Gilroy woman’s Chevron gas card was used to make $806.88 in charges, between 8 a.m. Aug. 25 and 5 p.m. Sept. 1.

A Gilroy woman received a letter from a collection agency attempting to recover a $229 debt accrued between 12 a.m. July 6 and 11:15 a.m. Sept. 18 on behalf of Comcast Communications, but she had never been a Comcast customer.

Petty theft

A black backpack containing a cell phone, clothing, credit cards and identification cards was stolen from the locker room at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., between 11:20 and 11:22 a.m. Sept. 21.

Commercial burglary

Three gas-powered blowers, a trimmer and a hedge sheerer, worth a total of $2,500, were stolen from a locked storage garage at Alpine Landscapes on the 9400 block of Kern Avenue, between 4 p.m. Sept. 18 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 21. A bolt cutter was used to cut the garage’s lock.

Auto burglary

The windows of a locked 2005 blue Saturn Relay on the 10000 block of Pacheco Pass Highway were smashed and about $200 worth of electronic equipment was stolen, between 9 p.m. Sept. 19 and 6 a.m. Sept. 20.

Theft

An iPod and credit cards were stolen from an unlocked black Chevrolet Silverado at Casa De Fruta on the 10000 block of Pacheco Pass Highway, between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

Auto theft

Three all terrain vehicles and a trailer were stolen from the 14900 block of Seymour Avenue in San Martin, between 6 p.m. Sept. 15 and 12 p.m. Sept. 16.

Recovered stolen vehicle

A 1992 green Honda Accord stolen out of San Jose was found parked in a driveway on the 11400 block of Turlock Avenue in San Martin, 8 a.m. Sept. 16.
