This week, Gilroy Police responded to a few incidents of stabbing, injured animals, theft, and drug-related crimes. Here are a few of those incidents:
Rodent stab victims
Two dead raccoons with stab wounds were found by Gilroy Police on Rancho hills and Long Meadow Drive at 9:40 a.m. Dec. 6. Police think that someone stabbed them with an object after trapping them in a container. The raccoons were incinerated in San Jose.
Homeless spat leads to stabbing
At 7:48 p.m. Dec. 6, police responded to a stabbing between two transients known to each other on Eigleberry and Third Streets. The victim, a woman, reported that she did not see the stab weapon because the man reached his arm to her back. Her wound was shallow. Police know who the suspect is, but have not caught him yet.
Theft and meth
James Duran, 46-year-old Gilroy resident, was arrested for petty theft when he allegedly stole some bike equipment from CVS on First Street at 3:38 p.m. on Dec. 7. Once arrested, police say they found 14 grams of methamphetamine packaged for sales on him. The handcuffed Duran bolted off from police, but was quickly caught again down the block. He was ultimately arrested for possession of narcotics for sale, resisting arrest and petty theft. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Driving under the influence
Michael McDowell, 19 of Gilroy, was arrested at 7:46 p.m. Dec. 9 for a single vehicle, non-injury DUI car crash on East Las Animas Avenue near and San Ysidro Avenue. He allegedly hit a barricade in his 1991 Nissan. Medical Personell arrived on the scene but the man was not injured. He was arrested and taken to jail for driving under the influence.Â
