Wendell McCulley

A man who was allegedly seen masturbating as he approached a Morgan Hill bus stop was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, police said.

Wendell McCulley, 53 of San Jose, also had what appeared to be cocaine and counterfeit currency in his possession when officers caught up with him, Morgan Hill police Sgt. Troy Hoefling said.

On Tuesday about 7:45 p.m., Morgan Hill officers responded to the area of Monterey Road and Bisceglia Avenue on a report of indecent exposure, police said.

A man later identified as McCulley approached a group of people waiting for a bus, witnesses said. As the man came closer, the witnesses noticed he was masturbating, police said.

McCulley was confronted by a passerby near the bus stop, but when officers arrived he had fled in a brown pickup, Hoefling said.

Police searched the area and found the vehicle, occupied by McCulley, parked in the Tennant Station parking lot, according to police.

The suspect was detained and identified by witnesses, and later arrested without incident, police said.

A search of his vehicle found about 2.5 grams of what appeared to be cocaine, several counterfeit $100 bills, and additional evidence linking him to the indecent exposure incident, Hoefling said.

Furthermore, police determined McCulley had a “lengthy” criminal history for similar offenses in several different states, Hoefling said.

McCulley was booked at Santa Clara County jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine, possession of counterfeit currency and indecent exposure, police said.
