Last week, police responded to several reports of burglaries, shopflifting and embezzlement. Here are a few incidents worth noting:
• A man went out from his home on the 400 block of Victoria Drive to take his dogs for a walk on May 1 at 12:53 p.m. When he returned 45 minutes later, he found his kitchen window open and screen missing. The suspect allegedly stole a semi-automatic handgun, a men’s ring, and some change.
• Eric Sanchez, 26-year-old Gilroy resident and Target employee, was arrested on May 1 at 6:29 p.m. for stealing store merchandise for the past five months at Target, and letting his friends take items without paying. Total loss was about $2,700 and included items such as a laptop computer, cell phone, two iPads, other electronics, entire carts of assorted merchandise and a toothbrush. Sanchez was arrested for felony embezzlement, and was brought to the Gilroy police station where he was issued a court date.
• Thirty-two-year-old Gilroy resident Molly Loa was arrested on May 2 at 8:10 p.m. for stealing about $500 worth of merchandise from Walmart on Camino Arroyo. Police also found two hypodermic needles and spoons containing residue in her backpack. She was placed on a parole hold. Loa was arrested for theft, drug paraphernalia and parole violation, and was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
• A resident of the 8000 block of Kelton Drive reported someone broke into his home and stole $1,600 worth of items such as jewelry, cash and prescription medicine, all from a locked safe on May 2 at 7:05 p.m. The suspect allegedly manipulated the lock to the safe. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence.
• Daniel Pacheco, the 30-year-old man with horn tattoos on his forehead arrested two weeks ago for allegedly stealing pornography from a mini mart, was arrested on April 30 at 4:30 p.m. for trespassing and parole violation, after a resident of Martin Street reported seeing Pacheco on the property after the home was burglarized. Items taken include a dagger, jewelry and power tools totaling $3,500. He was transported to Santa Clara County Jail. Police are still investigating the burglary to determine if Pacheco is a suspect.
