This past week, Gilroy Police responded to several cases of methanphetamines, both influence and possesion, home burglaries, and someone trying to shoplift coats. Here are a few noteworthy incidents.
- Jason Castro, 29, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine on West Sixth Street on March 29 at 12:46 a.m. Officers pulled Castro over because he was allegedly driving suspiciously in a 2000 brown Honda Accord, a car that has a high propensity of being stolen. After learning that Castro was on parole, the officer searched him and found methamphetamine. GPD Sgt. Chad Gallacinao would not disclose how much of the drug was found on Castro, but said that it appeared to be for personal use only. Castro was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
- A single-family home was reported burglarized on the 7400 block of Chestnut Street on March 30 at 10 a.m. The suspect allegedly stole a handgun and ammunition. The burglary occurred sometime between March 28 and March 30. Gallacinao would not reveal the relationship of the victim and alleged burglar, because he said it would compromise the investigation. Police have made no arrests on this case.
- During a parole search on 7400 block of Forest Street on March 31 at 5:52 p.m., drug paraphernalia was found. No arrests have been made because the suspect was not home at the time of the search. No other details have been released.
- On March 31 at 8:44 p.m., Maura Hernandez-Rodriguez, 23, was arrested for burglary from the Burlington Coat Factory on Chestnut Street after she allegedly tried to steal two bags full of concealed merchandise items. Police say she tripped the rear emergency exit alarm to distract store staff while she exited the store. Police caught her in the parking as she ran from loss prevention staff. Upon arrest, it was found that she had two outstanding warrants in Santa Clara. She was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
- Police pulled a yellow Toyota Supra over for a mechanical violation on First Street at Wayland Lane on April 1 at 1:52 a.m. The driver, Megan Lucero, 22, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of narcotics and after a series of tests, was allegedly found to be under the influence of methamphetamine. There was no one else in the car. She was arrested for a misdemeanor and after sobering up, was released from jail with a written citation.
