Despite committing five errors and allowing eight hits, the San Benito High baseball team beat Gilroy 9-4 Friday to with its sixth-straight Tri-County Athletic League game.

It was the second-straight year the Balers swept the season against their northern rivals.

The scoring started early for the Balers. The game remained 1-0 San Benito until the third, when Gilroy finally took advantage of the San Benito errors and walks.

Gilroy starting pitcher Ryan Alba opened with a double off the wall in deep right-center field. Two batters later, Bubu Garcia drilled a single to left field, but was thrown out at second base to end the rally.

San Benito regained the lead an inning later when Jose Guzman led off with a single and scored on a dropped catch by Gilroy center fielder Jordan Holler.

San Benito would add one more in the fourth and three in each the fifth and six innings to take a commanding 9-1 lead into the ninth inning.

Gilroy’s Garcia hit a three-run home run in the final run to inch the Mustangs closer, but pitcher Tyler Pina ended the rally.

San Benito starting pitcher Anthony Ocampo went four innings and allowed only one run and four hits.
