Gilroy Foundation awards more than $500k

Local groups and nonprofits benefit from philanthropy

The Gilroy Foundation awarded more than $540,000 in grants to Gilroy nonprofit groups and organizations during its 2025 grant cycle, says a press release from the foundation.

Nonprofit groups were awarded grants from Gilroy Foundation’s competitive grant cycle, its donor-advised funds, its designated donor funds, as well as annual payouts to its nonprofit partners.

Gilroy Foundation received a historic response to its annual grantmaking program, with a total of 78 grant applications submitted by local nonprofit groups in December.

Each year, Gilroy Foundation awards grants using 5% of the year-end fund balances from its grant-making funds, says the press release. Each grant application undergoes a thoughtful and thorough review process.

Grant recipients were notified in March. Competitive grant applicants that did not receive a grant were recommended to their donor-advised funds for funding.

The competitive grant cycle is aimed at empowering and enhancing the Gilroy community through philanthropy. This year, Gilroy Foundation awarded $88,948 in grants to 18 Gilroy nonprofit organizations at its annual grant giving event on April 24 at Old City Hall.

Gilroy Foundation welcomes grant applications from organizations engaged in various critical areas, including agriculture, artistic enrichment, education, environment, civic services, culture, health, recreation and technology. With grant awards ranging from $500 to $10,000, Gilroy Foundation is committed to being a catalyst for positive change and progress in the Gilroy community.

Gilroy Foundation also will award scholarships totaling $511,200 to Gilroy graduating seniors and community college transfer students, says the press release. Scholarship recipients will be notified and awarded at their respective high school awards ceremonies in May.
