Gilroy’s American League Angels of the Boys’ Minors division
stayed undefeated in the Tournament of Champions Saturday by
beating the Angels of San Juan Aromas 10-2. Meanwhile, Gilroy’s
Mets lost a tough game to the Scotts Valley Padres 14-4.
Gilroy’s American League Angels of the Boys’ Minors division stayed undefeated in the Tournament of Champions Saturday by beating the Angels of San Juan Aromas 10-2.

Harvey LeBlanc hit an RBI for the Angels’ first run, jump-starting the team to five runs total in the first inning. Gilroy also scored five runs in the third inning. Steven Chavez hit a double to bring in the last two runs of the 10.

Darius Alexander Jones had an excellent day on the mound as the starting pitcher, and Alec Cordova came on in relief to close out the game.

Gilroy’s Angels will play again at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Gilroy Sports Park.

Gilroy’s Mets recorded their first loss in TOC play Saturday, falling to the Scotts Valley Padres 14-4.

The Mets were able to score Tyler Galloway in the second inning, and tacked on three more in the third with singles by Dakota Gaucin, Michael Montez and Luke Schmidt, and a two-run double by Jimmy Lemberger. Jon Schmidt contributed a single in the fourth inning.

D-Ray Perll was the starting pitcher for the Mets and Gaucin, playing catcher, had two-put outs at home. Lemberger had two unassisted plays at first and Jon Schmidt snagged a deep fly ball in right field. Perll was relieved by Luke Schmidt, Sam Kent, and Lemberger.

The Mets play again at 6 p.m. today.
