Betty Corwin Stimson

Betty was born in Pocatello, ID the daughter of the late Fred A. Corwin and Anna Berniece Vogeli. She attended schools in Idaho and California before graduating high school in San Francisco in December 1941. While offered a full scholarship to the University of California, she chose to help family finances by working for the Pacific Telephone Company. She worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles in the early 1950’s. After marrying the late Ray Stimson, they started their own recreational boat business in the Bay Area.

Ray and Betty retired to Ridgemark 17 years ago. Besides being deeply involved with the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Betty devoted her energies to Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary. She was deeply honored to be its immediate past president, and was current parliamentarian. She was also a volunteer for Hospice of the Central Coast, The AARP tax preparers, and was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hollister.

Betty was predeceased by her brother, Fred L. Corwin and two sisters, Helen Weinholtz and Vy Wilhelm. She is survived by her brother, Arthur (Dolores) Corwin of Olympia, WA. She leaves her daughter, Nickie Amerius Sargeant and husband Michael Sargeant of Tres Pinos and a son Ray Stimson, Jr and his spouse, Robert Patnode of Modesto, CA. She leaves five grandchildren, Aaron (Christine) Stimson of Lincoln, RI, Morgan (Joe) Marquez of Hollister, Andrew Stimson of Berkeley, CA, Zach (Liz) Sargeant of Sunnyvale, CA and Rose (Nate Pudlin) Stimson of New Haven, CT. She is suvived by eight great- grandchildren: Elijah, Corinne, Dominic, Nathanial, Lucy, Cailinn, Theo and Graham.

The last weeks of Betty’s life were deeply saddened by the sudden death of her beloved companion, Col. Ed Sargeant (ret.)

Friends can pay their respects on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 from 2:30 PM until 4:00 PM at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. That same day, her funeral services will be held at 4:30 PM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 431 7th St. Hollister, CA. Private entombment to take place the following day in Colma, CA.
