GILROY—The annual Northern California Golf Association was the first large tournament David Dockendorf had ever played in, but he sure didn’t play like a rookie.
GILROY—If it weren’t for their uniforms, it would be hard to tell the players from Gilroy and Christopher High schools apart. The Cougars and Mustangs interacted like teammates during their Thursday match at Gavilan College. To them, it was just like playing a round with friends.
GILROY—Thursday’s match between Gilroy and San Benito was less about competition and more about friendship. After the scores were tallied and the medalist announced, girls from both sides exchanged handshakes, hugs and smiles; the results were the furthest thing from their minds.
GILROY—As day two of the Northern California Golf Association South Bay Zone Championship came to a close, the team representing Gilroy Golf and Country Club headed back to their vehicles feeling defeated.
SAN MARTIN—The 71st U.S. Women’s Open is more than a year away, but the United States Golf Association released special ticket packages for the tournament Tuesday.
WATSONVILLE—Monte Vista Christian senior Ryan Slater had three specific qualities he was searching for when picking a college. He wanted a school that had great academics, a good golf team that would give him the skills needed to go pro and a stellar coach to help strengthen his skills. For Slater, the University of Southern California got checkmarks across the board.
