Back in 2011, you addressed a rumor that Whole Foods was going to open in Gilroy. You provided the correct answer that Whole Foods was not coming to Gilroy. Well, that same rumor has resurfaced with information that Whole Foods will be moving into the old Orchard Supply building. Any truth this time around?
The City is allowing developers to use potable water to water down dust from construction? This in itself is typical of the city: give developers whatever they want. What is just as troubling is the ignorance of Planning Manager Susan Martin regarding her response to a Red phone inquiry about the continued development of Gilroy. She stated, “Whether Gilroy is in a drought ..." The City of Gilroy included a flyer in (a recent) billing stating "drought alert." The State of California is in the worst drought conditions in over 100 years. So what is the answer? Is all of Gilroy in a drought condition, including developers or just the residents? Can you get some clarification from the city?
I observe the City of Gilroy is switching streetlights from the kind with the orange glow to LEDs and have several questions. What is the replacement cost of each new light being installed? What is the monthly electrical operating cost of a new vs. the old style streetlight? Are the citizens going to see a cost savings in the first year of operating the lights? Will the city be able to recoup the cost of the old lights by selling them to another municipality and not just dumping them in the trash? How many hours of operation should a light provide before the bulb or LED will need to be replaced? Is PGE helping cover part of the cost of replacing? Thank you for investigating.
I live on the 8000 block of Westwood Drive and I notice there is no speed sign going toward Welburn. We get a lot of speeders and motorcycles. It's terrible. They need to put a sign up. Thanks.
In the Nov. 7 Dispatch, referring to Measure F, Mayor Don Gage was quoted as saying “there are a significant number of issues we don't have the money to fix.”
On Chestnut Street in Gilroy I saw a shopping cart and I was going to pick it up and return it. But then I saw seven more. Who's responsible? I'm sure it's not the city, so is it the stores themselves? If so, they don't seem to care.
There is standing water next to the baseball backstop at El Roble Park, on Santa Theresa Drive. It's muddy in many spots. I've talked to the school district and they say the right things, but overwatering is overwatering and they shouldn't be allowed to do it. Cut it back to one day a week watering, not three times a week. It's a mess. Thank you very much.
We went to the Tamale Festival in downtown Gilroy (Oct. 18) and there's a lot for them to learn. They ought to send a group to Indio, outside of Palm Springs, and see how they run theirs. The first weekend in December is always the Tamale Festival in Indio and they have learned to run a tamale festival. In the beginning it wasn't so hot, but in time it got better and better and I'm sure this one will too. But there were only two booths with tamales and they ran out. It could've been a fun day with all the cars and such, but no tamales, so we went to Mi Pueblo and they were out too. So we went to Taco Bell and had a taco. There were no tamales available. I'm sure it could be a great event for Gilroy
I’d like you to explain why every house or every other house in Gilroy gets the Dispatch free. I know quite a few people who don’t subscribe and get it free. I’m wondering why that is? I have no problem with it, but maybe next year I won’t subscribe. Thank you.
I think somebody needs to take a look at the way Charter is handling the TV coverage for Village Green nursing home off Santa Teresa. There are residents there who live primarily for TV and have a visitor once in a while, and Charter cut off their service for three weeks because they cut the TV off before they were ready to install the new system.
